Why Different Types of Light Fittings Suit Certain Rooms Better

There are so many different types of light fittings out there that it can feel impossible to make the right choice. Maybe you’ve purchased countless different ceiling light fittings, or you’re still in the thinking stage, and you’ve realised that not all types of light fittings suit all types of rooms. There are a few reasons for this and this article will tell you why.

Size

The size of your room is an integral component of whether your light fittings will suit it or not. If you have a bigger room, a smaller light fitting will likely make your room look bare and unfinished. So, choosing different types of light fittings, something bigger, for example, can help to pull the room together and make it feel cosy without being too cramped.

Similarly, if your room is on the smaller side, and you choose to install a grand crystal chandelier, you may find that your room looks busy and overcrowded. Size matters when it comes to different types of light fittings. So, you need to ensure that you evaluate the size of your room, accept it for what it is, and choose your light fitting accordingly.

Practicality

You may not have considered this, but certain light fittings aren’t appropriate or practical in certain rooms in your home. For example, rooms that generate high levels of moisture or steam require different ceiling light fittings than the other rooms in your house would. This is to ensure that your lights aren’t damaged if any water manages to seep into your bulbs.

Light fittings suitable for bathrooms usually have an IP44 rating, which proves that they’ve been tested to withstand water exposure.

Wattage

Different types of light fittings sometimes call for different bulb wattage. For this reason, you’ll find that some types of light fittings won’t suit particular rooms, as they’re simply far too bright. For example, if you’re installing different ceiling light fittings in your bedroom, you wouldn’t want a light fitting that requires a higher wattage, as the bulbs would shine far too bright. High-wattage ceiling light fittings would be far more suitable for rooms that need a lot of lighting, like kitchens.

Ceiling Height

Different ceiling light fittings are more suitable for certain types of rooms, as rooms with lower ceilings would be inappropriate for low-hanging light fixtures. In a hallway, where the ceiling is higher, you could get away with installing a lower-hanging ceiling light, but in a cupboard under the stairs, a simple light would suffice.

Aesthetics

Finally, some light fittings may not suit your room because they simply don’t match your aesthetic. There is such a vast range of choices available nowadays, that you won’t struggle to find something eventually.
